Alexander Lindsey bought land along the north shore of the Mohawk River from the Iroquois Indians. He named his estate Scotia, in memory of the Scottish hills of his native country.
The village of Scotia, located in the town of Glenville began as a tiny hamlet that was considered part of the city of Schenectady.
