Description:: At the age of 1 year I
spent every summer in a bungalow we owned on Lower Rhoda Lake. We knew all the
camps, Ferosdel, Camp Rhoda and Barrington, and Camp Natchez. We shopped in a
grocery called Finkels in West Copake. There was the Triangle and the Berkshire
Pines in West Copake, Mr. Palin was the big wig in Town. The Bainers Farm came
there in 1930 off of Route 7A at the four corners opposite Camp Natchez.
The farm is still there in good condition with a lot of cows. It is for sale and I hope it never becomes something commercial as so many of the farms in the area are all gone.The best years of my life wer spent in Copake and my memories will never fade. We knew the Alpern Family and the Weinberg family and all the families living in the original Teachers colony near the four corners off Rt 7A.
We loved Franks garage and Longs Grocery Store in Copake and the original movie theater with the two big flower pots on the stage. Unfortunately we sold our house in the early 1990's and I still miss it, but go back every year to visit old friends. I am thrilled that my granddaughter who is 8 years is going to Camp Pontiac this year for the first time.
I intend to see her on the lake at swim periods if it is possible. My name at the time was Harriet Rosenfeld and since then I shared the house with my sister Cynthia Ader. My brothers name was Sheldon Rosenfeld. In later years we were friendly with the Holober family. If you recall any of these rememberences please write.
