Up on Preston Mountain
The Story of an American Ghost Town By John & Richard Polhemus.
Preston Mountain lies on the New York-Connecticut border partly in the
town of Amenia, in Dutchess County. The last resident of Preston
Mountain died in 1924, and the old community disappeared. Old stone
walls, woods roads and cellar holes are all that remain of this rural
subsistence farming community that was first settled in 1766 by Martin
Preston and his family. This is a history of the town he created.
