Historic Places

Bnai Israel Synagogue on Wagner Avenue - Contract for construction of Bnai Israel was signed May 27, 1920. Started by the Jewish Farmers Association, it was incorporated in 1918. Services are held through the summer.

Fleischmanns United Methodist Church on Main Street- built in 1890, it retains much of it's original character, including woodwork and stained glass.

White Hall on Wagner Avenue - Built about 1900 by Attorney Eugene Howe, who aspired to become NY State governer. He had a huge balcony built on the second floor of his home, and it was from here he intended to make speeches. He never became governer, but the balcony still remains.

Lake Switzerland on Lake Street- dredged and built in the 1906 for recreational use in the summer and ice harvesting in the winter. This ice made it possible to ship dairy products to the city.

Skene Memorial Library on Main Street - founded by Dr and Mrs Alexander Skene, a celebrated surgeon and his wife, who were summer residents of the area. It was through the influence of Mrs Skene that a $5,000 donation was obtained from Andrew Carnegie. The cornerstone was laid in November 1901.
