Halcott, formed from Lexington November 19, 1851, is situated in
the southwest corner of Greene, in a rather isolated mountain section. The
modern bus has given some measure of accessibility and more of the land has
been cleared in the last few years. It had its first settler in 1790, but none
permanent until after the War of 1812.
