Dutchess County FAVORs
veterans
Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2011
Dutchess County will
participate in the Find and Assist Veterans of Record program.
An immediate benefit for veterans is an identification card for
discounts from participating merchants.
The
program, whose acronym is FAVOR, also is expected to help identify the
estimated 20,000 veterans in Dutchess County and their needs.
Honorably
discharged veterans living in Dutchess County can participate by
bringing discharge papers or a certificate of release (Form DD214) to
the Veterans Service Office in the County Office Building, 22 Market
St., Poughkeepsie.
Forms for Veterans, and for businesses
interested in participating in FAVOR, can be obtained at the forms at
the above website
Ulster
County has the FAVOR program also.
A veteran - whether
active duty,
retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in
his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of
America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is
honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer
understand it. -- Author Unknown

Veterans
Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first
anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in
1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday
beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in
1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who
served in all American wars. The day has evolved into also honoring
living military veterans with parades and speeches across the nation. A
national ceremony takes place at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington
National Cemetery inVirginia.
"On behalf of the
President of the United States and a grateful nation, please accept
this flag as a token of the honorable and faithful service of your
loved one."

We have a mission
To
take care of those who have sacrificed so much to defend our freedom.
To provide a safe haven where our nation’s veterans and their loved
ones can reconnect. To provide access to needed services for our
military personnel and their families. They did their part… they gave
of themselves for us… it’s our turn to give back to them.
